Rosa ‘Lark Ascending’ makes a frequent appearance in both my gardens and photographic work.  I love how its flowers catch the light in the garden, and the way they glow against a dark background in my pictures.  Though it lacks fragrance, nearby scented flowers like Philadelphus ‘Belle Etoile’ (Mock Orange), with its white blooms and burgundy centres, more than make up for it.  The nodding bells of foxgloves and campanulas are quintessential cottage garden favourites, but less commonly seen are flowering dogwoods and the exquisite martagon lilies, which are such a treat in early summer.  The shiny, plump seeds of Angelica archangelica were cut before they spread through the garden in great profusion, and glistening gooseberries were gathered along with unripe blackberry fruits from the hedgerow.
