If you’ve found this page through my Instagram feed, you’ll already know that the Chatsworth cutting garden in Derbyshire, UK is my usual spot. I love that garden and I’ll look forward to getting back to it in early 2021, hopefully with a head full of new and interesting ideas. Sophie Bromley, a skilled organic gardener, and I have been working together for a month or so now, and I’m over the moon that she’s going to be taking the cutting garden on for the year. Working in the garden this summer, before this new opportunity came to light, I felt that it (and I) might well benefit from a fresh pair of eyes, a new perspective and a different set of skills. I also wanted to discuss new ideas about cut flower growing, organic gardening methods, garden biodiversity, plant combinations etc. with someone else, and Sophie has already brought this to the garden. So this new flower adventure feels like it has come at the right time.
Rightly or wrongly, I tend to get a little blinkered once I get into my work and focussed on a project, so before starting at Floret I’m taking the train across America from New York on the east coast to Mount Vernon on the west coast, a distance of around 3,000 miles. I’m looking forward to this journey as much as anything else and can’t wait to see some of the landscapes of America and get a sense of the scale of such a vast country - it’ll be an interesting way to spend Christmas this year too. No doubt I’ll want to share pictures and stories about the journey once I get started, so keep an eye out on here and on Instagram for whatever comes next. Thank you for stopping by!
